Labuan Bajo

Why its worth it...

If you’re looking for a destination that feels untouched, wildly beautiful, and just a little bit adventurous… let me introduce you to one of Indonesia’s best-kept secrets: Labuan Bajo.

Tucked away on the island of Flores, this once sleepy fishing village is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about luxury-meets-adventure destinations in Southeast Asia and after visiting myself, I can tell you… it absolutely lives up to the hype.

Getting there
It is worth the effort

Getting to Labuan Bajo takes a little effort but that’s part of what keeps it so special.

Most travellers fly via Bali, with a short domestic flight into Komodo Airport. It’s the perfect add-on to a Bali itinerary and gives you the best of both worlds vibrant energy and raw, untouched beauty.

Where I stayed
Barefoot Luxury done right

I stayed at AYANA Komodo Waecicu Beach and honestly, it was incredible.

This is one of those stays where the hotel becomes part of the experience.

  • Sunsets on the pier or by the pool were a daily ritual (and trust me… you won’t want to miss them)
  • The morning hike to watch the sunrise is something I highly recommend such a peaceful, “wow” moment to start your day
  • The views, the service, the overall vibe… it’s luxury, but still feels connected to nature

If you’re doing Labuan Bajo, this is how you elevate it.

The Ultimate Day
Komodo National Park

We did a full-day tour through Komodo National Park—and this was easily one of the highlights of the entire trip.

Our day included:

  • Komodo Island – seeing the Komodo dragons up close (surreal)
  • Padar Island – that iconic hike and viewpoint (yes, it’s as good as it looks but be prepared there are ALOT of stairs and it is hot!)
  • Pink Sand Beach – crystal-clear water and soft pink tones, I have never seen anything like it.
  • Taka Makassar – the most stunning sandbar surrounded by turquoise water
  • Manta Point – swimming with manta rays (bucket list moment)

It’s one of those days where every stop feels better than the last.

Where to Eat
A must do dining experience

One of my absolute favourite meals was at Le Bajo Flores.

Set right on the water, it’s the kind of place you go for the view and stay for the food.

  • The setting is beautiful and relaxed
  • The food was beyond amazing
  • Perfect for a sunset dinner after a day out on the water

👉 Hot tip: They don’t take cash, so make sure you bring your card.

Getting Around & local tips

Labuan Bajo is still developing, which is part of its charm but it does mean things work a little differently.

  • To get into town or around the island, you’ll typically WhatsApp a driver
  • It’s around $10 AUD each way, which is very reasonable
  • We popped into town for supplies from a local convenience store and found everything to be very affordable compared to mainland destinations

It’s simple, easy, and all part of the experience.

The Vibe
Why I loved it

Labuan Bajo isn’t polished like Bali and that’s exactly why I loved it.

It’s raw. It’s real. It’s naturally beautiful without trying too hard.

It’s early morning sunrises, slow afternoons by the pool, and those golden sunsets that make you stop and just take it all in.

Tips for Visiting
  • Stay at least 3–4 nights
  • Book your Komodo tour in advance
  • Pack for both adventure and relaxation
  • Pair it with Bali for the ultimate itinerary
  • Don’t expect big nightlife this is all about nature, ocean, and experience
Is Labuan Bajo worth it?

If you’re looking for something beyond the usual…
