The Ultimate Stopover Itinerary You Didn’t Know You Needed
If you’ve ever wondered whether Hong Kong is worth visiting as a stopover or short holiday… let me tell you now YES, it absolutely is.
We had just 72 hours in Hong Kong, and we made it our mission to see, eat, and experience as much as possible and honestly, we barely scratched the surface.
Here’s exactly what we got up to (and why you should add Hong Kong to your list ASAP).
Hong Kong hits you straight away with its energy, skyline and efficiency.
We stayed at Harbour Grand Kowloon, which was in a great, central location—making it super easy to jump on the MTR (metro) and explore the city.
And trust me, the MTR is your best friend here. It’s quick, clean and incredibly easy to navigate.
We kicked things off at the iconic Ladies Market… and let’s just say, we didn’t hold back 😅
From souvenirs to fashion and everything in between, it’s:
Pro tip: bring your bargaining skills.
We spent a full day at Hong Kong Disneyland—and honestly, it was SO much fun.
It still gives you that full Disney magic:
You’re never too old for Disney. Ever.
A must-do in any Hong Kong itinerary is the Peak Tram to Victoria Peak.
We made it to the top… and were greeted with absolutely no view at all 😂 (completely fogged in).
But honestly? Still worth it.
We ended up walking down through the gardens instead, which turned into a really beautiful and unexpected experience.
Travel tip: always have a backup plan and embrace it when things don’t go perfectly.
One of the most memorable experiences was visiting the Tian Tan Big Buddha.
To get there:
And yes… it’s a climb.
But the feeling when you reach the top? Totally worth it.
If you’re going to Hong Kong… come hungry.
We did a local food walking tour, which took us to hidden gems and hole-in-the-wall spots you would never find on your own.
Standout eats:
Hong Kong is hands down one of the best food cities in the world.
Getting around Hong Kong is part of the experience.
Don’t miss:
👉 And here’s one of my favourite travel tips…
You can actually check your luggage in at the city (Central or Kowloon stations) and send it straight to the airport ✈️
Perfect for late flights, you can explore luggage-free all day.
Hong Kong comes alive at night.
We explored:
Whether you want cocktails or a full night out, Hong Kong delivers.
I really loved Hong Kong.
It’s vibrant, easy to navigate, full of culture, food and experiences—and perfect as either:
That said… 72 hours was not enough.
I would absolutely go back and spend longer next time to really deep dive into everything it has to offer.
If you’re planning Asia, Europe, or even the USA—Hong Kong is the perfect stopover to elevate your trip.
